Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the arts of performing, and which we now know as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her to being in the "child prodigy" category. However, for an Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family these qualities were normal. Maureen joined this wonderful refuge located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen FitzSimons was second in a family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. She combined this interest with an equally natural aptitude to perform. It was evident when she was awarded each Feis for theatre and drama which Ireland could provide. In her 14th year she joined an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study the classical theater and operatic singing.
